The Power of Commitment

There are 2 primary choices in life: to accept conditions as they exist or accept the responsibility for changing them.

~Denis Waitley

What a great quote.  If you take all areas of your life – your finances and work, your health and well-being, your relationships – you are either accepting conditions as they exist or you are taking the responsibility to change them. I heard it said to know what you are committed to, take a look at your daily planner (where you are putting your time) and your check book (where you are putting your money).

So, what are you committed to?  Are you spending your time and energy on your priorities?  Are you committed to the attitudes and behaviors that move you forward in a positive direction, that build you up, that empower you?

If you don’t decide to commit to your goals and priorities, you will give up too easily.  There is no staying power.   Commitment is an attitude, a character trait that basically radiates “I am never giving up.”

  1. Develop a strong mindset. Meditate on thoughts that empower you, that uplift you.  Every morning, literally give yourself a pep talk….Build yourself up with positive affirmations.
  2. You can’t drive a parked car.  You have to keep moving.  Do something, anything that will move you forward towards what you are wanting to experience.  If you want a healthier body, you need to commit to exercise and clean eating.  If you want peace of mind, you need to commit to living without worry, fear, regret and anxiety.
  3. Decide what attitude you will commit to.  If you don’t choose how you will show up in your world, the world is going to rock you.  Maybe you are feeling a bit rocked right now.   Swayed and influenced by people and circumstances around you.   That is just not a healthy and empowered way to live.  Negativity weakens us, drains us of our energy and strength.  Being positive energizes, builds and strengthens us.   Choose to practice being positive and optimistic.  Commit to this attitude.
  4. Practice patience.  Everything takes longer than we think it should.  Weight loss, developing a strong mindset,  getting better in a sport, learning a new skill, selling a house, finding a new job, starting a new business…..Everything is a process , a journey and will test your patience.  Patience is where our character is tested.    So why don’t we just decide now that we will practice patience with our results and enjoy the process.

So, remember, we have only one day at a time to live, so let’s live this day consciously and deliberately and let’s choose well.
